The biblical test
for identifying a true prophet of God is found
in Deuteronomy 18:21-22. Consistent with this
biblical test, God's true prophets, are 100
percent accurate in their predictions. There is
zero room for error. The prophecies in
this study deal with the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are many other fascinating prophecies in
the Scriptures that reveal the divine
authenticity of the Bible.
Concerning the
following prophecies:
But these are
written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye
might have life through his name. ( John 20:31)
Prophecy:
To
be Born a King of the Line of David
Old Testament
Source:
Of the increase of
his government and peace there shall
be no end, upon the throne of David, and
upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish
it with judgment and with justice from
henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD
of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:7)
And when thy days be
fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy
fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee,
which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I
will establish his kingdom. He shall build an
house for my name, and I will stablish the
throne of his kingdom for ever. (2 Samuel 7:12,
13)
Behold, the days
come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto
David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign
and prosper, and shall execute judgment and
justice in the earth. (Jeremiah 23:5)
But they shall serve
the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I
will raise up unto them. (Jeremiah 30:9)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
The book of the generation of Jesus
Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
(Matthew 1:1)
He shall be great,
and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of
his father David. (Luke 1:32)
And when he had
removed him, he raised up unto them David to be
their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and
said, I have found David the son of
Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall
fulfil all my will. Of this man's seed hath God
according to his promise raised unto
Israel a Saviour, Jesus. (Acts 13:22, 23)
Prophecy:
A
Child to be Born
Old Testament
Source:
For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall
be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
For unto you is born this day in the city of
David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke
2:11)
Prophecy:
Born
of a virgin
Old Testament
Source:
And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is
it a small thing for you to weary men, but
will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord
himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call
his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:13, 14)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise:
When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph,
before they came together, she was found with
child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her
husband, being a just man, and not
willing to make her a publick example, was
minded to put her away privily. But while he
thought on these things, behold, the angel of
the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying,
Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto
thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived
in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the
prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with
child, and shall bring forth a son, and they
shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:18-23)
And in the sixth month the
angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of
Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to
a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of
David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail,
thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is
with thee: blessed art thou among women.
And when she saw him, she was troubled
at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner
of salutation this should be. And the angel said
unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found
favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt
conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and
shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great,
and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of
his father David: And he shall reign over the
house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom
there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the
angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a
man? And the angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the
power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:
therefore also that holy thing which shall be
born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
(Luke 1:26-35)

Kings
shall bring him gifts and fall down before him

shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and
Seba shall offer gifts. Yea, all kings shall

judgment.The mountains shall bring
peace to the people, and the little hills, by
righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the
people, he shall save the children of the needy,
and shall break in pieces the oppressor. They
shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon
endure, throughout all generations. He shall
come down like rain upon the mown grass: as
showers that water the earth. In his
days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance
of peace so long as the moon endureth. He shall
have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the
river unto the ends of the earth. They that
dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him;
and his enemies shall lick the dust. The kings
of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring
presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall
offer gifts. Yea, all kings shall fall down
before him: all nations shall serve him.
(Matthew 2:1-11)

of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream,

young child to destroy him. When he arose, he
took the young child and his mother by night,
and departed into Egypt: And was there until the
death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which
was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Out of Egypt have I called my son....But when
Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying,
Arise, and take the young child and his mother,
and go into the land of Israel: for they are

His brethren therefore said unto him,
Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy
disciples also may see the works that thou

thyself to the world. For neither did his
brethren believe in him. (John 7:3-5)
Prophecy:
Rulers
take council against him
Old Testament

New Testament
Fulfillment:
Then the Pharisees went out, and held a
council against him, how they might destroy him.

Then assembled
together the chief priests, and the scribes, and

4)

spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and
with him a great multitude with swords and
staves, from the chief priests and elders of the
people. (Matthew 26:47)
And Herod with his
men of war set him at nought, and mocked him,

23:11, 12)

Prophecy:
Christ
to enter the Temple
Old Testament
References:
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he
shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord,
whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple,
even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye
delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the
LORD of hosts. (Malachi 3:1)
And I will shake
all nations, and the desire of all nations shall
come: and I will fill this house with glory,
saith the LORD of hosts. The glory of this
latter house shall be greater than of the
former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this
place will I give peace, saith the LORD of
hosts. (Haggai 2:7, 9)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And
Jesus entered the temple and drove out all
those who were buying and selling in the
temple, and overturned the tables of the money
changers and the seats of those who were
selling doves. And He said to them, βIt is
written, βMy house shall be called a house of
prayerβ; but you are making it a robber's
den.β And the blind and the lame came to Him
in the temple, and He healed them. But when
the chief priests and the scribes saw the
wonderful things that He had done, and the
children who were shouting in the temple,
βHosanna to the Son of David,β they became
indignant and said to Him, βDo You hear what
these children are saying?β And Jesus said to
them, βYes; have you never read, βOut of the
mouth of infants and nursing babes you have
prepared praise for yourself ?β (Matthew
21:12-16 )
And Jesus entered
into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he
had looked round about upon all things, and now
the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany
with the twelve. (Mark 11:11)
And there was a man
in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man
was righteous and devout, looking for the
consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was
upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the
Holy Spirit that he would not see death before
he had seen the Lordβs Christ. And he came in
the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents
brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him
the custom of the Law, then he took Him into his
arms, and blessed God, and said, βNow Lord, You
are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in
peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have
seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in
the presence of all peoples, A light of
revelation to the gentiles.
And the glory of
Your people Israel.β And His father and mother
were amazed at the things which were being said
about Him. And Simeon blessed them and said to
Mary His mother, βBehold, this Child is
appointed for the fall and rise of many in
Israel, and for a sign to be opposedβ and a
sword will pierce even your own soulβto the end
that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.β
And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of
Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced
in years and had lived with her husband
seven years after her marriage, and then as a
widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left
the temple, serving night and day with fastings
and prayers. At that very moment she came up and
began giving thanks to God, and continued
to speak of Him to all those who were looking
for the redemption of Jerusalem.
When they had performed everything
according to the Law of the Lord, they returned
to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth. The
child continued to grow and become strong,
increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was
upon Him.
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every
year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He
became twelve, they went up there
according to the custom of the Feast; and as
they were returning, after spending the full
number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in
Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it,
but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went
a dayβs journey; and they began
looking for Him among their relatives and
acquaintances. When they did not find Him, they
returned to Jerusalem looking for Him. Then,
after three days they found Him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the teachers, both
listening to them and asking them questions. And
all who heard Him were amazed at His
understanding and His answers. (Luke 2:25-47)
Jesus
entered the temple and began to drive out
those who were selling, saying to them, βIt is
written, βand my house shall be a house of
prayer,β but you have made it a robber's den.β
And He was teaching daily in the temple; but
the chief priests and the scribes and the
leading men among the people were trying to
destroy Him, (Luke 19:45-47)
Prophecy:
The
call of those who were not his people
Old Testament
Source:
Behold, I have given him for a
witness to the people, a leader and commander to
the people. Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou
knowest not, and nations that knew
not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD
thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he
hath glorified thee. (Isaiah 55:4, 5)
And I will sow her
unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon
her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say
to them which were not my people, Thou art
my people; and they shall say, Thou art
my God. (Hosea 2:23)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And that he might make known the riches of his
glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had
afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath
called, not of the Jews only, but also of the
Gentiles? As he saith also in Osee, I will call
them my people, which were not my people; and
her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall
come to pass, that
in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my
people; there shall they be called the children
of the living God. (Romans 9:23-26)
Prophecy:
The
King comes to Jerusalem riding on a donkey
Old Testament
Source:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O
daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh
unto thee: he is just, and having
salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and
upon a colt the foal of an ass. (Zechariah 9:9)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
As they
approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany,
near the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His
disciples, and said to them, βGo into the
village opposite you, and immediately as you
enter it, you will find a colt tied there,
on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and
bring it here. βIf anyone says to you,
βWhy are you doing this?β you say, βThe Lord has
need of itβ; and immediately he will send it
back here.β They went away and found a colt tied
at the door, outside in the street; and they
untied it. Some of the bystanders were saying to
them, βWhat are you doing, untying the colt?β
They spoke to them just as Jesus had told them,
and they gave them permission. They brought the
colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He
sat on it.And many spread their coats
in the road, and others spread leafy
branches which they had cut from the fields.
Those who went in front and those who followed
were shouting: βHosanna! Blessed is He who comes
in the name of the Lord; Blessed is the
coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in
the highest!β (Mark 11:1-10)
When they had
approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage,
at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two
disciples, saying to them, βGo into the village
opposite you, and immediately you will find a
donkey tied there
and a colt with her; untie them and bring them
to Me. βIf anyone says anything to you, you
shall say, βThe Lord has need of them,β and
immediately he will send them.β This took place
to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
βSay to the daughter of of Zion,
βBehold your King is coming to you, Gentile, and
mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, The foal of
beast of burden.ββ (Matthew 21:1-5)
And when he had thus spoken, he went
before, ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came
to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and
Bethany, at the mount called the mount of
Olives, he sent two of his disciples, Saying, Go
ye into the village over against you; in the
which at your entering ye shall find a colt
tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and
bring him
hither. And if any man ask you, Why do
ye loose him?
thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord
hath need of him. And they that were sent went
their way, and found even as he had said unto
them. And as they were loosing the colt, the
owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the
colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast
their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus
thereon. And as he went, they spread their
clothes in the way. And when he was come nigh,
even now at the descent of the mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of the disciples began to
rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all
the mighty works that they had seen; Saying,
Blessed be
the King that cometh in the name of the Lord:
peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. (Luke
19:28-38)
And Jesus, when he
had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is
written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy
King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. (John
12:14, 15)
Prophecy:
Upon Christ's coming,
the deaf hear and the blind see
Old Testament Source:
And in that day
shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and
the eyes of the blind shall see out of
obscurity, and out of darkness. (Isaiah 29:18)
Then the eyes of
the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the
deaf shall be unstopped. (Isaiah 35:5)
New Testament Fulfillment:
The blind receive
their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised
up, and the poor have the gospel preached to
them. (Matthew 11:5)
And were beyond
measure astonished, saying, He hath done all
things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear,
and the dumb to speak. (Mark 7:37)
Summoning two of
his disciples, John sent them to the Lord,
saying, βAre You the Expected One, or do we look
for someone else?β When the men came to Him,
they said, βJohn the Baptist has sent us to You,
to ask, βAre You the Expected One, or do we look
for someone else?ββ At that very time He cured
many people
of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits;
and He gave sight to many who were
blind. And He answered and said to them, βGo and
report to John what you have seen and heard: the
blind receive sight, thelame walk, the lepers
are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are
raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to
them. Luke 7:19-22
And Jesus said, For
judgment I am come into this world, that they
which see not might see; and that they which see
might be made blind. (John 9:39)
Prophecy:
Fulfill
promises to Jews and to be a light to the
Gentiles
Old Testament
Source:
I the LORD have
called thee in righteousness, and will hold
thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee
for a covenant of the people, for a light of the
Gentiles; (Isaiah 42:6)
And he said, It is
a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore
the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee
for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be
my salvation unto the end of the earth. (Isaiah
49:6)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And there was a man in Jerusalem whose
name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and
devout, looking for the consolation of Israel;
and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had
been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he
would not see death before he had seen the
Lordβs Christ. And he came in the Spirit into
the temple; and when the parents brought in the
child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of
the Law, then he took Him into his arms, and
blessed God, and said, βNow Lord, You are
releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,
According to Your word; For my eyes have seen
Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the
presence of all peoples, A light of revelation
to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people
Israel.β (Luke 2:25-32)
That Christ should
suffer, and
that he should be the first that should rise
from the dead, and should shew light unto the
people, and to the Gentiles. (Acts 26:23)
Prophecy:
A
new and everlasting covenant
Old Testament
Source:
Behold, days are coming,β declares the LORD, βwhen I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the
house of Judah, not like the covenant which I
made with their fathers in the day I took them
by the hand to bring them out of the land of
Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I
was a husband to them,β declares the LORD. βBut this is the covenant
which I will make with the house of Israel after
those days,β declares the LORD,
βI will put My law within them and on their
heart I will write it; and I will be their God,
and they shall be My people. βThey will not
teach again, each man his neighbor and each man
his brother, saying, βKnow the LORD,β
for they will all know Me, from the least of
them to the greatest of them,β declares the LORD, βfor I will forgive their
iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.
(Jeremiah 31:31-34)
Behold, I will
gather them out of all the lands to which I have
driven them in My anger, in My wrath and in
great indignation; and I will bring them back to
this place and make them dwell in safety. βThey
shall be My people, and I will be their God; and
I will give them one heart and one way, that
they may fear Me always, for their own good and
for the good
of their children after them. βI will
make an everlasting covenant with them that I
will not turn away from them, to do them good;
and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so
that they will not turn away from Me. (Jeremiah
32:37-40)
They shall ask the
way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying,
Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a
perpetual covenant that shall not be
forgotten. (Jeremiah 50:5)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it
to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is
my blood of the new testament, which is shed for
many for the remission of sins. But I say unto
you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit
of the vine, until that day when I drink it new
with you in my Father's kingdom. (Matthew
26:27-29)
And as they did eat, Jesus
took bread, and blessed, and brake it,
and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is
my body. And he took the cup, and when he had
given thanks, he gave it to them: and
they all drank of it. And he said unto them,
This is my blood of the new testament, which is
shed for many. (Mark 14:22-24)
And He said to them, βI
have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with
you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall
never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the
kingdom of God.β And when He had taken a cup and
given thanks, He said, βTake this and share it
among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not
drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until
the kingdom of God comes.β And when He had taken
some
bread and given thanks, He broke it and
gave it to them, saying, βThis is My body which
is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.β
And in the same way He took the cup after they had
eaten, saying, βThis cup which is poured out for
you is the new covenant in My blood. (Luke
22:15-20)
After the same manner also
he took the cup, when he had supped,
saying, This cup is the new testament in my
blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it,
in remembrance of me. (1 Corinthians 11:25)
For finding fault with
them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the
Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not
according to the covenant that I made with their
fathers in the day when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because
they continued not in my covenant, and I
regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is
the covenant that I will make with the house of
Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will
put my laws into their mind, and write them in
their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and
they shall be to me a people: And they shall not
teach every man his neighbour, and every man his
brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall
know me, from the least to the greatest. For I
will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and
their sins and their iniquities will I remember
no more. (Hebrews 8:8-12)
And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for
after saying, βThis is the covenant that I will
make with them after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws upon their heart, and on
their mind I will write them, He then says, βAnd
their sins and their lawless deeds I will
remember no more.β Now where there is
forgiveness of these things, there is no longer
any offering for sin. Therefore,
brethren, since we have confidence to enter the
holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and
living way which He inaugurated for us through
the veil, that is, His flesh. (Hebrews 10:15-20)
Prophecy:
A
prophet like Moses, speaking Godβs Words
Old Testament
Source:
The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee
a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy
brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall
hearken; I will raise them up a Prophet from
among their brethren, like unto thee, and will
put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak
unto them all that I shall command him. And it
shall come to pass, that whosoever will
not hearken unto my words which he shall speak
in my name, I will require it of him.
(Deuteronomy 18:15, 18, 19)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And the multitude said, This is Jesus the
prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. (Matthew 21:11)
And there came a fear on
all: and they glorified God, saying, That a
great prophet is risen up among us; and, That
God hath visited his people. (Luke 7:16)
And he said unto them, What
things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus
of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed
and word before God and all the people. (Luke
24:19)
Then those men, when they
had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This
is of a truth that prophet that should come into
the world. (John 6:14)
Many of the people
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of
a truth this is the Prophet. (John 7:40)
But the things which God
announced beforehand by the mouth of all the
prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has
thus fulfilled. βTherefore repent and return, so
that your sins may be wiped away, in order that
times of refreshing may come from the presence
of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the
Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must
receive until the
period of restoration of all things about which
God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from
ancient time. For Moses truly said unto the
fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise
up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him
shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall
say unto you. (Acts 3:18-22)
Prophecy:
Born
of the seed of Abraham
Old Testament
Source:
And I will establish my covenant between
me and thee and thy seed after thee in their
generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a
God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I
will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee,
the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the
land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession;
and I will be their God. (Genesis 17:7, 8)
Sojourn in this
land, and I will be with thee, and will bless
thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will
give all these countries, and I will perform the
oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And
I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of
heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these
countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations
of the earth be blessed; (Genesis 26:3, 4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the
son of David, the son of Abraham... So all the
generations from Abraham to David are
fourteen generations; and from David until the
carrying away into Babylon are fourteen
generations; and from the carrying away into
Babylon unto Christ are fourteen
generations. (Matthew 1:1, 17)
Now to Abraham and his seed
were the promises made. He saith not, And to
seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy
seed, which is Christ... And if ye be
Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs
according to the promise. (Galatians 3:16, 29)
For verily he took not on him
the nature of angels; but he took on him
the seed of Abraham. (Hebrews 2:16)
Prophecy:
Born
of the Seed of Isaac
Old Testament
Source:
And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a
son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac:
and I will establish my covenant with him for an
everlasting covenant, and with his seed
after him. (Genesis 17:19)
And God said unto Abraham,
Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of
the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all
that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her
voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
(Genesis 21:12)
And the LORD appeared unto
him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in
the land which I shall tell thee of: Sojourn in
this land, and I will be with thee, and will
bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I
will give all these countries, and I will
perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy
father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as
the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed
all these countries; and in thy seed shall all
the nations of the earth be blessed. (Genesis
26:2-4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat
Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren...
So all the generations from Abraham to David are
fourteen generations; and from David until the
carrying away into Babylon are fourteen
generations; and from the carrying away into
Babylon unto Christ are fourteen
generations. (Matthew 1:2, 17)
Neither, because
they are the seed of Abraham, are they
all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be
called. (Romans 9:7)
By faith Abraham,
when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that
had received the promises offered up his only
begotten son, Of whom it was said, That
in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting
that God was able to raise him
up, even from the dead; from whence also he
received him in a figure. (Hebrews 11:17-19)
Prophecy:
Of
the Seed of Jacob; a star shall come out of
Jacob
Old Testament
Source:
And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said,
I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father,
and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou
liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth,
and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to
the east, and to the north, and to the south:
and in thee and in thy seed shall all the
families of the earth be blessed. (Genesis
28:13, 14)
I shall see him, but not
now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there
shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre
shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the
corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of
Sheth... Out of Jacob shall come he that shall
have dominion, and shall destroy him that
remaineth of the city. (Numbers 24:17, 19)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and
Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; (Matthew
1:2)
And he shall reign over the
house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom
there shall be no end. (Luke 1:33)

Prophecy:
Firstborn
Son
Old Testament
Source:
Sanctify unto me all the firstborn,
whatsoever openeth the womb among the children
of Israel, both of man and of beast: it
is mine. (Exodus 13:2)
Because all the
firstborn are mine; for on the
day that I smote all the firstborn in the land
of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in
Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be:
I am the LORD.
(Numbers 3:13)
For all the
firstborn of the children of Israel are
mine, both man and beast: on the day
that I smote every firstborn in the land of
Egypt I sanctified them for myself. (Numbers
8:17)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And she brought forth her firstborn son,
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid
him in a manger; because there was no room for
them in the inn... (As it is written in the law
of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb
shall be called holy to the Lord;) (Luke 2:7,
23)
Prophecy:
A
Rod from the Stem of Jesse
Old Testament
Source:
And there shall come forth a rod out of
the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out
of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall
rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
LORD; (Isaiah 11:1, 2)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And Jesse begat David the king; and David the
king begat Solomon of her that had been the
wife of Urias; (Matthew 1:6)
And when he had removed
him, he raised up unto them David to be their
king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said,
I have found David the son of Jesse, a
man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all
my will. Of this man's seed hath God according
to his promise raised unto Israel a
Saviour, Jesus:
(Acts 13:22, 23)
Prophecy:
Herod's
slaying of children
Old Testament
Source:
Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping;
Rahel weeping for her children refused to be
comforted for her children, because they were
not. (Jeremiah 31:15)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of
the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent
forth, and slew all the children that were in
Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from
two years old and under, according to the time
which he had diligently inquired of the wise
men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by
Jeremy the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a
voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great
mourning, Rachel weeping for her
children, and would not be comforted, because
they are not. (Matthew 2:16-18)
Prophecy:
Christ's
Eternal Existence
Old Testament
Source:
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though
thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet
out of thee shall he come forth unto me that
is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings
forth have been from of old, from
everlasting. (Micah 5:2)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God... In him was
life; and the life was the light of men. (John
1:1, 4)
Jesus said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham
was, I am. (John 8:58)
He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For by Him all things were created, both
in the heavens and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or
rulers or authoritiesβall things have been
created through Him and for Him. He is before
all things, and in Him all things hold together.
He is also head of the body, the church; and He
is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
so that He Himself will come to have first place
in everything. For it was the Fatherβs
good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in
Him. (Colossians 1:15-19)
Prophecy:
An
Everlasting Covenant
Behold, I will
gather them out of all the lands to which I have
driven them in My anger, in My wrath and in
great indignation; and I will bring them back to
this place and make them dwell in safety. βThey
shall be My people, and I will be their God; and
I will give them one heart and one way, that
they may fear Me always, for their own good and
for the good of their children after
them. βI will make an everlasting covenant with
them that I will not turn away from them, to do
them good; and I will put the fear of Me in
their hearts so that they will not turn away
from Me. (Jeremiah 32:37-40)
They shall ask the
way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying,
Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a
perpetual covenant that shall not be
forgotten. (Jeremiah 50:5)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He
gave it to them, saying, βDrink from it,
all of you; for this is My blood of the
covenant, which is poured out for many for
forgiveness of sins. βBut I say to you, I will
not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on
until that day when I drink it new with you in
My Fatherβs kingdom.β (Matthew 26:27-29)
While they were eating, He
took some bread, and after a blessing He
broke it, and gave it to them,
and said, βTake it; this is My body.β
And when He had taken a cup and given
thanks, He gave it to them, and they all
drank from it. And He said to them, βThis is My
blood of the covenant, which is poured out for
many. (Mark 14:22-24)
And He said to them, βI
have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with
you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall
never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the
kingdom of God.β And when He had taken a cup and
given thanks, He said, βTake this and share it
among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not
drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until
the kingdom of God comes.β And when He had taken
some bread and given thanks, He
broke it and gave it to them, saying, βThis is
My body which is given for you; do this in
remembrance of Me.β And in the same way He
took the cup after they had eaten, saying,
βThis cup which is poured out for you is the new
covenant in My blood. (Luke 22:15-20)
Whereof the
Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after
that he had said before, This is the
covenant that I will make with them after those
days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into
their hearts, and in their minds will I write
them; And their sins and iniquities will I
remember no more. Now where remission of these is,
there is no more offering for sin. Having
therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the
holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and
living way, which he hath consecrated for us,
through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
(Hebrews 10:15-20)
Prophecy:
A
Prophet like Moses
Old Testament
Source:
The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a
Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren,
like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; I will
raise them up a Prophet from among their
brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words
in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all
that I shall command him. And it shall come to
pass, that whosoever will not hearken
unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I
will require it of him. (Deuteronomy
18:15, 18, 19)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And the multitude said, This is Jesus the
prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. (Matthew 21:11)
And there came a
fear on all: and they glorified God, saying,
That a great prophet is risen up among us; and,
That God hath visited his people. (Luke 7:16)
And he said unto
them, What things? And they said unto him,
Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a
prophet mighty in deed and word before God and
all the people: (Luke 24:19)
Then those men,
when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did,
said, This is of a truth that prophet that
should come into the world. (John 6:14)
Many of the people
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of
a truth this is the Prophet. (John 7:40)
But the things
which God announced beforehand by the mouth of
all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer,
He has thus fulfilled. βTherefore repent and
return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in
order that times of refreshing may come from the
presence of the Lord; and that He may send
Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven
must receive until the period of
restoration of all things about which God spoke
by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient
time. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A
prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto
you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye
hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto
you. (Acts 3:18-22)
Prophecy:
Hated
without reason
Old Testament
Source:
Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully
rejoice over me: neither let them wink
with the eye that hate me without a cause.
(Psalm 35:19)
They that hate me without a
cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they
that would destroy me, being mine
enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored
that which I took not away. (Psalm 69:4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
If
I had not done among them the works which none
other man did, they had not had sin: but now
have they both seen and hated both me and my
Father. But this cometh to pass, that
the word might be fulfilled that is written in
their law, They hated me without a cause. (John
15:24, 25)
Prophecy:
Came
to do the will of God
Old Testament
Source:
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of
the book it is written of me, I delight
to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is
within my heart. (Psalm 40:7, 8)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And he went a little further, and fell on
his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it
be possible, let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
(Matthew 26:39)
Wherefore when he
cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and
offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou
prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices
for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I,
Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is
written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above
when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt
offerings and offering for sin thou
wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein;
which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo,
I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the
first, that he may establish the second.
(Hebrews 10:5-9)
Prophecy:
Anointed
by God
Old Testament
Source:
Thy throne, O God, is for ever
and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is
a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and
hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath
anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy
fellows. (Psalm 45:6, 7)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
But unto the Son he saith, Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a
sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre
of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness,
and hated iniquity; therefore God, even
thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of
gladness above thy fellows. (Hebrews 1:8, 9)
Prophecy:
A
Zeal for Godβs House
Old Testament
Source:
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me
up; and the reproaches of them that reproached
thee are fallen upon me. (Psalm 69:9)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And his disciples remembered that it was
written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me
up. (John 2:17)
Prophecy:
Care
for the Poor
Old Testament
Source:
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth;
the poor also, and him that hath no
helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and
shall save the souls of the needy. He shall
redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and
precious shall their blood be in his sight.
(Psalm 72:12-14)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go
your way, and tell John what things ye have seen
and heard; how that the blind see, the lame
walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear,
the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is
preached. (Luke 7:22)
Prophecy:
Spoke
in Parables
Old Testament
Source:
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will
utter dark sayings of old: (Psalm 78:2)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And the disciples came and said to Him,
βWhy do You speak to them in parables?β Jesus
answered them, βTo you it has been granted to
know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but
to them it has not been granted. βFor whoever
has, to him more shall be given, and he
will have an abundance; but whoever does not
have, even what he has shall be taken away from
him. βTherefore I speak to them in parables;
because while seeing they do not see, and while
hearing they do not hear, nor do they
understand. And in them is fulfilled the
prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye
shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing
ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this
people's heart is waxed gross, and their
ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they
have closed; lest at any time they should see
with their eyes, and hear with their
ears, and should understand with their
heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them. But blessed are your eyes,
for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
(Matthew 13:10-16)
All these things
spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and
without a parable spake he not unto them: That
it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the
prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in
parables; I will utter things which have been
kept secret from the foundation of the world.
(Matthew 13:34, 35)
And he said, Unto
you it is given to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that
seeing they might not see, and hearing they
might not understand. (Luke 8:10)
Prophecy:
Prayer
for His enemies
Old Testament
Source:
For my love they are my adversaries: but I give
myself unto prayer. (Psalm 109:4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless
them that curse you, do good to them that hate
you, and pray for them which despitefully use
you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)
Then said Jesus, Father,
forgive them; for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
(Luke 23:34)
Prophecy:
Davidβs
son and Davidβs Lord at Godβs right hand
Old Testament
Source:
A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my
Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make
thine enemies thy footstool. (Psalm 110:1)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
While the Pharisees were gathered
together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think
ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto
him, The Son of David. He saith unto
them, How then doth David in spirit call him
Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit
thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies
thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how
is he his son? (Matthew 22:41-45)
And Jesus answered
and said, while he taught in the temple, How say
the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? For
David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD
said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till
I make thine enemies thy footstool. David
therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence
is he then his son? And the common
people heard him gladly. (Mark 12:35-37)
So then after the
Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up
into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
(Mark 16:19)
And said, Behold, I
see the heavens opened, and the Son of man
standing on the right hand of God. (Acts 7:56)
Concerning his Son
Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the
seed of David according to the flesh; (Romans
1:3)
Which he wrought in
Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and
set him at his own right hand in the
heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:20)
Who being the
brightness of his glory, and the express
image of his person, and upholding all things by
the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of
the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)
Prophecy:
A
Priest after the Order of Melchizedek
Old Testament
Source:
The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art
a priest for ever after the order of
Melchizedek. (Psalm 110:4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
So also Christ glorified not himself to
be made an high priest; but he that said unto
him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten
thee. As he saith also in another place,
Thou art a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec... Called of God an high
priest after the order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews
5:5, 6, 10)
Whither the
forerunner is for us entered, even
Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews 6:20)
This Melchizedek was king of Salem and
priest of God Most High. He met Abraham
returning from the defeat of the kings and
blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of
everything. First, the name Melchizedek means
βking of righteousnessβ; then also, βking of
Salemβ means βking of peace.β Without father or
mother, without genealogy, without beginning of
days or end of life, resembling the Son of God,
he remains a priest forever.
Just think how great he was: Even the
patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the
plunder! Now the law requires the descendants of
Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from
the peopleβthat is, from their fellow
Israelitesβeven though they also are descended
from Abraham. This man, however, did not trace
his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth
from Abraham and blessed him who had the
promises. And without doubt the lesser is
blessed by the greater. In the one case, the
tenth is collected by people who die; but in the
other case, by him who is declared to be living.
One might even say that Levi, who collects the
tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, because
when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in
the body of his ancestor.
If perfection could have been attained
through the Levitical priesthoodβand indeed the
law given to the people established that
priesthoodβwhy was there still need for another
priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek,
not in the order of Aaron? For when the
priesthood is changed, the law must be changed
also. He of whom these things are said belonged
to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe
has ever served at the altar. For it is clear
that our Lord descended from Judah, and in
regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about
priests. And what we have said is even more
clear if another priest like Melchizedek
appears, one who has become a priest not on the
basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on
the basis of the power of an indestructible
life. For it is declared:
βYou are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.β
The former regulation is set aside
because it was weak and useless (for the law
made nothing perfect), and a better hope is
introduced, by which we draw near to God.
And it was not without an oath! Others
became priests without any oath, but he became a
priest with an oath when God said to him:
βThe Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
βYou are a priest forever.ββ
Because of this oath, Jesus has become
the guarantor of a better covenant. (Hebrews
7:1-22)
Prophecy:
The
Chief Cornerstone
Old Testament
Source:
The stone which the builders
refused is become the head stone of the
corner. This is the LORD'S doing; it is
marvellous in our eyes. (Psalm 118:22, 23)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the
scriptures, The stone which the builders
rejected, the same is become the head of the
corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is
marvellous in our eyes? (Matthew 21:42)
And have ye not read this
scripture; The stone which the builders rejected
is become the head of the corner: This was the
Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
(Mark 12:10, 11)
And he beheld them, and
said, What is this then that is written, The
stone which the builders rejected, the same is
become the head of the corner? (Luke 20:17)
Be it known unto you all,
and to all the people of Israel, that by the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye
crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even
by him doth this man stand here before you
whole. This is the stone which was set at nought
of you builders, which is become the head of the
corner. Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts
4:10-12)
And are built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus
Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
(Ephesians 2:20)
To whom coming, as unto
a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but
chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as
lively stones, are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual
sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,
Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believeth on him
shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore
which believe he is precious: but unto
them which be disobedient, the stone which the
builders disallowed, the same is made the head
of the corner, (1 Peter 2:4-7)
Prophecy:
The
Way of Repentance for all Nations
Old Testament
Source:
And it shall come to pass in the last
days, that the mountain of the LORD'S
house shall be established in the top of the
mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills;
and all nations shall flow unto it. And many
people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go
up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of
the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his
ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of
Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the
LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among
the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and
they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall
not lift up sword against nation, neither shall
they learn war any more. (Isaiah 2:2-4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in his name among all
nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:47)
Prophecy:
Immanuel,
God with us
Old Testament
Source:
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you
a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and
bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
(Isaiah 7:14)
And he shall pass
through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he
shall reach even to the neck; and the
stretching out of his wings shall fill the
breadth of thy land, O Immanuel... Take counsel
together, and it shall come to nought; speak the
word, and it shall not stand: for God is
with us. (Isaiah 8:8, 10)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And she shall
bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
Jesus: for he shall save his people from their
sins. Now all this was done, that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the
prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with
child, and shall bring forth a son, and they
shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:21-23)
And the Word was
made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld
his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John
1:14)
Philip saith
unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it
sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been
so long time with you, and yet hast thou not
known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen
the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us
the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the
Father, and the Father in me? the words that I
speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the
Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the
Father in me: or else believe me for the very
works' sake. (John 14:8-11)
For in him dwelleth
all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
(Colossians 2:9)
Prophecy:
A
Stone of Stumbling, a Rock of Offense
Old Testament
Source:
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for
a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence
to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for
a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And
many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be
broken, and be snared, and be taken. (Isaiah
8:14, 15)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read
in the scriptures, The stone which the builders
rejected, the same is become the head of the
corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is
marvellous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto
you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you,
and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits
thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone
shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall
fall, it will grind him to powder. (Matthew
21:42-44)
Wherefore? Because
they sought it not by faith, but as it
were by the works of the law. For they stumbled
at that stumblingstone; As it is written,
Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock
of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall
not be ashamed. (Romans 9:32, 33)
Wherefore also it
is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and
he that believeth on him shall not be
confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he
is precious: but unto them which be
disobedient, the stone which the builders
disallowed, the same is made the head of the
corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of
offence, even to them which stumble at
the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they
were appointed. (1 Peter 2:6-8)
Prophecy:
A
Light Shinning in the Darkness
Old Testament
Source:
Nevertheless the dimness shall
not be such as was in her
vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted
the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
and afterward did more grievously afflict her
by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in
Galilee of the nations. The people that walked
in darkness have seen a great light: they that
dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon
them hath the light shined. (Isaiah 9:1, 2)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
That it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land
of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by
the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of
the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness
saw great light; and to them which sat in the
region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
(Matthew 4:14-16)
A light to lighten
the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people
Israel. (Luke 2:32)
In him was life;
and the life was the light of men. And the light
shineth in darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not. (John 1:4, 5)
Prophecy:
Prince
of Peace
Old Testament
Source:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a
son is given: and the government shall be upon
his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah
9:6)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto
you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it
be afraid. (John 14:27)
The word which God
sent unto the children of Israel, preaching
peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
(Acts 10:36)
Therefore being justified
by faith, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ: (Romans 5:1)
For he is our peace, who
hath made both one, and hath broken down the
middle wall of partition between us;
(Ephesians 2:14)
And, having made peace
through the blood of his cross, by him to
reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I
say, whether they be things in
earth, or things in heaven. (Colossians 1:20)
Prophecy:
Full
of Wisdom, Power and Righteousness
Old Testament
Source:
And there shall come
forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a
Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the
spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the
spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit
of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge
and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him
of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:
and he shall not judge after the sight of his
eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his
ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the
poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of
the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with
the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his
lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness
shall be the girdle of his loins, and
faithfulness the girdle of his reins. The wolf
also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard
shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and
the young lion and the fatling together; and a
little child shall lead them. And the cow and
the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie
down together: and the lion shall eat straw like
the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the
hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put
his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not
hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for
the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the
Lord, as the waters cover the sea. And in that
day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall
stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall
the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be
glorious. (Isaiah 11:1-10)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with
the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about
doing good, and healing all that were oppressed
of the devil; for God was with him. (Acts 10:38)
But of him are ye
in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us
wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification,
and redemption: (1 Corinthians 1:30)
That the God of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give
unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in
the knowledge of him: (Ephesians 1:17)
That their hearts
might be comforted, being knit together in love,
and unto all riches of the full assurance of
understanding, to the acknowledgement of the
mystery of God, and of the Father, and of
Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of
wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2, 3)
Prophecy:
The
Key of the House of David is upon His Shoulder
Old Testament
Source:
And it shall come to
pass in that day, that I will call my servant
Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: And I will clothe
him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy
girdle, and I will commit thy government into
his hand: and he shall be a father to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of
Judah. And the key of the house of David will I
lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and
none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none
shall open. And I will fasten him as a nail in a
sure place; and he shall be for a glorious
throne to his father's house. And they shall
hang upon him all the glory of his father's
house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels
of small quantity, from the vessels of cups,
even to all the vessels of flagons. In that day,
saith the Lord of hosts, shall the nail that is
fastened in the sure place be removed, and be
cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon
it shall be cut off: for the Lord hath spoken
it. (Isaiah 22:20-25)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And to the angel of the church in
Philadelphia write; These things saith he that
is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key
of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth;
and shutteth, and no man openeth; (Revelation
3:7)
Prophecy:
A
Stone in Zion, a sure Foundation
Old Testament
Source:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone,
a tried stone, a precious corner stone,
a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not
make haste. (Isaiah 28:16)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a
stumblingstone and rock of offence: and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
(Romans 9:33)
Wherefore also it
is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and
he that believeth on him shall not be
confounded. (1 Peter 2:6)
Prophecy:
Godβs
Elect Servant in Whom He Delights
Old Testament
Source:
Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in
whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit
upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the
Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor
cause his voice to be heard in the street. A
bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking
flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth
judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be
discouraged, till he have set judgment in the
earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
(Isaiah 42:1-4)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
That it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the
prophet, saying, Behold my servant, whom I have
chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well
pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he
shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall
not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear
his voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall
he not break, and smoking flax shall he not
quench, till he send forth judgment unto
victory. And in his name shall the Gentiles
trust. (Matthew 12:17-21)
But made himself of
no reputation, and took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
(Philippians 2:7)
Prophecy:
Spirit
of the LORD shall Rest on Him
Old Testament
Source:
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me;
because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good
tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to them
that are bound; (Isaiah 61:1)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up
straightway out of the water: and, lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and
lighting upon him: (Matthew 3:16)
The Spirit of the Lord is
upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke
4:18)
Prophecy:
The
Righteous Branch
Old Testament
Source:
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I
will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a
King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute
judgment and justice in the earth. In his days
Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell
safely: and this is his name whereby he
shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
(Jeremiah 23:5, 6)
In those days, and at that
time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness
to grow up unto David; and he shall execute
judgment and righteousness in the land. In those
days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall
dwell safely: and this is the name
wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our
righteousness. (Jeremiah 33:15, 16)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Even the righteousness of God which
is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and
upon all them that believe: for there is no
difference: (Romans 3:22)
But of him are ye
in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us
wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification,
and redemption: (1 Corinthians 1:30)
For he hath made
him to be sin for us, who knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God
in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
And be found in
him, not having mine own righteousness, which is
of the law, but that which is through the faith
of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by
faith: (Philippians 3:9)
Prophecy:
The
Good Shepherd
Old Testament
Source:
And I will set up one shepherd over them,
and he shall feed them, even my servant
David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their
shepherd. And I the LORD will be their God, and
my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD
have spoken it. (Ezekiel 34:23, 24)
And David my
servant shall be king over them; and
they all shall have one shepherd: they shall
also walk in my judgments, and observe my
statutes, and do them. (Ezekiel 37:24)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd
giveth his life for the sheep. (John 10:11)
Now the God of
peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord
Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through
the blood of the everlasting covenant, (Hebrews
13:20)
For ye were as
sheep going astray; but are now returned unto
the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. (1 Peter
2:25)
Prophecy:
The
Enthroned High Priest
Old Testament
Source:
And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the
LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name
is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out
of his place, and he shall build the temple of
the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the
LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit
and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a
priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace
shall be between them both. (Zechariah 6:12, 13)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
If therefore
perfection were by the Levitical priesthood,
(for under it the people received the law,) what
further need was there that another priest
should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and
not be called after the order of Aaron? For the
priesthood being changed, there is made of
necessity a change also of the law. For he of
whom these things are spoken pertaineth to
another tribe, of which no man gave attendance
at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord
sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake
nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far
more evident: for that after the similitude of
Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is
made, not after the law of a carnal commandment,
but after the power of an endless life. For he
testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec. For there is verily a
disannulling of the commandment going before for
the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For
the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing
in of a better hope did; by the which we draw
nigh unto God. And inasmuch as not without an
oath he was made priest: (For those priests were
made without an oath; but this with an oath by
him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will
not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec:) By so much was Jesus made
a surety of a better testament. And they truly
were many priests, because they were not
suffered to continue by reason of death: But
this man, because he continueth ever, hath an
unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able
also to save them to the uttermost that come
unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make
intercession for them. For such an high priest
became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher than the
heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high
priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his
own sins, and then for the people's: for this he
did once, when he offered up himself. For the
law maketh men high priests which have
infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was
since the law, maketh the Son, who is
consecrated for evermore. (Hebrews 7:11-28)
Now of the
things which we have spoken this is the sum: We
have such an high priest, who is set on the
right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the
heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the
true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not
man. (Hebrews 8:1, 2)
Prophecy:
Sun
of Righteousness; the Day Star; our Light
Old Testament
Source:
But unto you
that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness
arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go
forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And
ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall
be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day
that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
(Malachi 4:2, 3)
New Testament
Fulfillment:
Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the
dayspring from on high hath visited us, (Luke
1:78)
Then spake Jesus again unto
them, saying, I am the light of the world: he
that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
Wherefore he saith, Awake
thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and
Christ shall give thee light. (Ephesians 5:14)
We have also a more sure
word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye
take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a
dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star
arise in your hearts: (2 Peter 1:19)
And I will give him the
morning star. (Revelation 2:28)
I Jesus have sent mine
angel to testify unto you these things in the
churches. I am the root and the offspring of
David, and the bright and morning star.
(Revelation 22:16)

He was
oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened
not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the
slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is
dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (Isaiah 53:7)
New Testament Fulfillment:
And when he was
accused of the chief priests and elders, he
answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto him,
Hearest thou not how many things they witness
against thee? And he answered him to never a
word; insomuch that the governor marvelled
greatly. (Matthew 27:12-14)

deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. (Psalm
22:8)

(Psalm 22:18)
New Testament Fulfillment:
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified
Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts,
to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now
the coat was without seam, woven from the top
throughout. They said therefore among
themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots
for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture
might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my vesture they did
cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did. (John 19:23-24)

Christ Cries Out on the Cross
Old Testament Source:
To the chief
Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of
David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken
